A recent visit to the Adelaide State Library provided members the opportunity to peruse the Herb Book collection, view early editions of the Herbs Thymes, a 1684 editon of the Culpeper and the Compatus.

People can google the State Library of South Australia or just enter the www.slsa.sa.gov.au

The State Library of South Australia's website has lots of interesting and useful information and illustrations, all accessible from the homepage. The catalogue lists published material (books, magazines, maps, CDs etc) and unpublished material (archival items belonging to individuals, businesses and organisations such as letters, diaries, photographs, minute books, and oral histories etc).

For example a word search for Alison Ashby lists photographs, books, oral histories and a poster. Try a subject search for your suburb. A subject search on herbs results in 77 subject headings with 322 items More than 70,000 South Australian photographs are viewable and you can contribute caption information online. For example children gardening in 1927 has an unidentified person http://images.slsa.sa.gov.au/mpcimg/37000/B36971.htm.

The menu option for exhibitions has many fascinating illustrated topics, including a previous exhibition in the Treasures Wall called Botanic Riches http://www.samemory.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=964
SA Memory http://www.samemory.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=964 is the State Library's flagship for documenting the South Australian experience.
